Dreamweaver MX 2004 & Apple Mac Snow...

Hi all,

Is there a way of getting Dreamweaver MX2004 to launch in Snow Leopard on the Mac? I have installed Rosetta, but Dreamweaver will not launch. By clicking on 'Get Info' on the Dreamweaver icon in the Finder, there is no 'Open in 32-bit mode' option.

Having called Apple Care, they advised it was an incompatibility issue. I cannot now open Dreamweaver, and hence cannot go the Updates menu to see if there are any applicable software updates. Having been on the Dreamweaver updates section of the Adobe site, I have downloaded the Dreamweaver 7.0.1 updater, just in case I had not previously installed this. However, upon running it reaches an error - stating I do not have sufficient access permissions (I do). (See attached screenshot).

If there is any help/advice anyone can give I would much appreciate it. I am not looking to upgrade Dreamweaver, since I am not a webdesigner and only use it a tiny amount to make minor adjustments to my website.

System: Mac Pro running Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard), Dreamweaver MX2004.

You need to realise that DWMX is several years old now and may not run on the new OS which is not even a week old. Adobe, have made the decision not to support very eary versions of their software on the new OS.聽 So you may be out of luck I'm afraid.

I understand it is an old programme, and that support is waning for it. From my personal point of view, I use it so infrequently and with such a lack of knowledge/skill that it is not worth my upgrading. I wonder on two accounts:

if anyone knows if Dreamweaver MX2004 with the 7.0.1 update does run in OS 10.6 (I can uninstall Snow Leopard, open Dreamweaver in OS 10.5 and ensure that I have 7.0.1 installed in which case)

if anyone knows of any 'work-arounds' that might be out there which might help. It worked in Leopard (10.5) and I wonder if there are any third party emulation programmes that might enable me to run the programme 'in Leopard' from within Snow Leopard?

I rely on on MX 2004 too, but not enough to fork out for the latest version. this old version does everything i've ever needed and and the tricks it cant do i can add in to the code by hand.

I tried the fix used for that on my DW MX 2004 but it didn't work - the problem appears to be with the first run of the app before the serial number bit comes up, so copying all the files from a ''registered'' install on a 10.5 leopard system should make it skip this registration step and move on to loading the main program. but after a few hours of trying its still not having it.

I hope a solution comes up soon, DW is the only app thats not working for me on 10.6, and i don't really want to downgrade back to leopard because of this one probably tiny problem.

Search these forums for ''Snow'' or ''Snow Leopard'' and you will find that SL is creating havoc for a lot of people.

Issue #1聽 Java -聽 SL installs Java SE 6 which many legacy apps cannot use, so rolling back to an earlier version of Java may have some benefit.

Issue #2聽 Permissions folders -聽 Again, not sure if any of this will help MX users b/c it's more than 5 years old now, but it might be worth looking at.

I'm having the same problems , cant open mx 2004 in SL and dont use it enough to justify the upgrade cost. I'v been talking to a web friend who has recommended the following solution, at about a quater of the price of upgrading! Havnt looked into it yet, let me know if anyones used it!

I'm not sure why this month old post was bumped, but to the last poster, Adobe typically only allows you to upgrade your version if it is one of the previous 3 versions.聽 That would mean that CS4 is your last chance to upgrade.聽 Based on Adobe's history, you will only be able to upgrade to CS5 from Dreamweaver 8/CS2.聽 Anything before that would require that you purchase another full license at the full retail cost.

It seems, that all Versions of MX 2004 distributed as versions with internet/phone activation/registration have the problem, that they crash trying to connect the Macromedia Server.

The versions distributet with a volume license do not have this problem. So I hope the support of Adobe will find a solution soon.

(Even if dreamweaver does not run without problems under snow leopard... For me it is worth to run dreamweaver f.e. without the ftp part)

Yep this makes Freehand start perfectly, now is there a version of that file that will make DW start, i've tried renaming it to dreamweaver but it didn't work

also the file seems to contain no data so i guess the filename makes it work?

Heres what i did...

1 - install Dreamweaver and any other MX 2004 apps you want to use on another mac, i used a G4 800 with Leopard on.

2 - install using the following Key [volume licence key removed by moderator]

3 - make sure the app launches on the mac and doesnt ask for a key again.

4 - zip this folder up HD%26gt;Library%26gt;application support%26gt;Macromedia it was about 14mb on mine, i zipped the whole thing just for the hell of it.

5 - install dreamweaver on the 10.6 Snow Leopard Mac, it doesn't matter if you launch the app now it will still crash, it wont affect what happens next.

6 - replace the HD%26gt;Library%26gt;application support%26gt;Macromedia folder with the one from the other mac

7 - launch dreamweaver - stare in awe at the splash screen!

8 - make a website, smugly

after a day of use, its not crashed and runs exactly as it did on leopard.

HOWEVER what i have noticed is each time the app is launched a ''Crash report'' gets logged even though there is no crash, so you may want to tidy up the Home Folder%26gt;Library%26gt;logs%26gt;CrashReporter and DiagnosticReports folders every now and then.

Rapidweaver is a proprietary file format... file extension is rwsw, not html until you publish it., which is not a big deal but means no other html editor will open rwsw.
