Flash Lite database application - help!

Dear all,

I would like to ask for your help/opinion.

I am a beginner Flash programmer. I am planning to create a Flash Lite application that will provide information on current cultural events (e.g. music, theatre), cinema listings, restaurant recommendations etc.

For this, I need to have a database on my server, which will store all the data (e.g for a music event I need the place, artist name, date and time, description of event, contact details, and maybe an image).

I then want to transfer the data (only updates) to my users' mobile phones, and store them there. This will allow them to update and then be able to browse the information offline.

I am not sure how to do this. I read about Shared Objects, but it seems that these objects do not provide enough space for what I need to do (let's say 1000 records at least at any one time).

Can anyone provide any direction on how to solve this problem? Just to recap, I am looking for a solution to create a Flash Lite database application that will receive cumulative updates from a web server and store the data locally on the mobile.

I found a way to work arround it, I created all the letters that I wanted to uses, a to z, and numbers 0 to 9, then every time i need to write something on a model I clone the letters that I need, change the position and add them as a child of the model.

Encoding taking quite long

Hello all, hoping you can let me know if this is normal or not. First, specs:

2.83 quad core, 8GB RAM, Windows Vista, CS4, footage is AVCHD.

Shot a film and am trying to export. I made two timelines in the same project, as one was the first cut, and the second one is the second cut. I'm trying to export the second cut; it has a runtime of 1h43min. I go to export, just as I would any other clip. In this case, I'm trying to export to MPEG2-DVD as I want to work with it in Encore to produce a DVD. Anyway, I send it over to Encoder, and there it sits. The last time I did this (with the first cut), it took nearly 18 hours to complete. I'm now 6 hours into the export, and the Encoder has the (Not Reponding) tag at the top. Though my first inclination is to close and try again, I remember when exporting the first cut, it'd do that before loading and encoding. So, I guess my question is this: Is it normal for Encoder to take over 6 hours to load a timeline, and another 12 to encode (for a 2 hour film), or is something going terribly wrong?

It seems a bit long, but then your CPU is not up to editing AVCHD. This may be further hindered by other system limitations, like disk setup. In all, around 18 hours makes sense with the hardware and source material and the length of your timeline. The penalty of using AVCHD.

You may be better off with a different camera, that uses a better format for editing, or a more powerful PC.

I suppose a faster quad core is in order? Dual core processors can barely handly scrubbing through the video. I also thought that the additional RAM upgrade may help (was at 4, went up to 8), but still, 18 hours just seems insanely long. I suppose if I were shooting HDV on some tape-based camera, the export time would be significantly smaller? Simply because AVCHD doesn't like to play?

I guess it helps to transcode to something else. Course I guess that defeats the purpose of getting an AVCHD camera. Thanks for letting me know that this 18 hour time is normal. I just wish it weren't so, as it's a costly mistake if an error is found.?Thnaks again.

I think 6 hours to start encoding is unreasonable.?I suspect the AME is genuinely hung.

I have a dual quad-core system.?Encoding 1080p30 AVCHD down to MPEG2 DVD, *without* setting Maximum Render Quality, takes 2.5 to 3 times real time with only straight cuts.?During that time, all 8 cores are pegged at 100%.?So a 1.75 hour timeline would take me about 5 hours to export.?On a quad-core system, I would expect about 10 hours encoding time for straight cuts, longer if effects are added.

If you use MRQ, which you should if you want any kind of decent quality for the final DVD, then you can expect encoding times to increase 3 to 4 times that much.?So worst case with MRQ, you're probably looking at 2 days to encode your project.

You need to make sure your system is rock-solid stable, with ample cooling, if your CPU will have all 4 cores chugging away at 100% for that long.

My system is very stable, with 4 fans. I'm not worried about an overheat situation. I'm just surprised that it'd take so long, even to just load. When I was working with a smaller timeline, obviously, it exported much faster. Perhaps I should consider transcoding to a different format before editing AVCHD? Of course, there's going to be a quality loss if I choose to do that. At this point though, for this project, looks like I'm stuck with the 18-48 hour encoding time. Hope I didn't make a mistake

Maximum Render Quality isn't controlled by the Quality slider in the

settings dialog.

Dang. Well, there went 8 hours

But that's okay. Best to have things perfect and take the time. My camera is the CanonHF100, and though it claims a 24P scan, it really is a 1080i60 via on-camera pulldown. So, I'll head home, start the process again, and hopefully things will turn out much better. Most likely won't see any change in time, but at least I'll have the right settings.

If you are using PrPro, then you have posted to the wrong forum. Here is the PrPro forum.

Now, for benchmarks with PrPro, you might want to look at this benchmark SITE. There are a couple of considerations. The video-card plays a very, very small role in the performance of a workstation running PrPro. However, there is a good database of equipment using standard benchmarking files. Also, with these benchmarking files, you can do the same exact thing, and can plug in your data to easily compare your results.

With NLE work, the main elements that will improve your editing experience, and in this order:

1.) I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, controller type, free space and how allocated

2.) CPU

3.) RAM

With AVCHD, and some heavily compressed material, #1 %26amp; #2 will likely be reversed in importance. The vid-card will be down the list quite a bit.

Now, your CX nVidia will provide some good response with Photoshop, but with the exception of some GPU Transitions and Effects, you'll likely not notice much of an improvement. By PrPro CS5, some of the CUDA functions might well play a bigger role, just not yet.

CRASH - linking from the properties...

this is in CS3 with a 1.5 hour project, motion menus and animated buttons.

I can't link using the arrow in the properties panel. The pickwhip will work, but this means that I can't use features for example ''return to last menu'' or, the killer, ''resume''. every time i click the arrow (and even if i release the lmb over another option) encore crashes to desktop.

also I note that I'm randomly losing transcodes, I presume due to the fact that I'm CTD'ing so much. A hard restart has failed to alleviate any of these problems.

Suggestions, anyone?

PS - Also, does anyone know of a more stable application for building DVDs? the more projects I use Encore for, the more obvious it becomes that it is simply not ready for production work. I've lost count of the amount of times it's crashed, generally after editing an AE or PS asset and dynamic linking back to encore, or simply when trying to preview a project. I should also point out that these crashes occur regardless of the complexity of the project - the software is simply buggy.

Now, I do not have CS3, but En 2.0, so this does not address your problem, but over the years, many hundreds of Projects and nearly 2000 DVD's burned, I have had zero crashes and only one error message. I do not recall many commenting on instability with CS3, though there do seem to be more with CS4.

With crashes, the troubleshooting almost always breaks out this way, and in this order:

1.) System

2.) Assets

3.) Project

This is slightly different in En, than in PrPro. There, the Project is usually at #2 and the Assets #3, though not always.

If you can give the full details of your system, the more the better, your Assets and your Project, there might be something in there that will point to the problems. Again, the more detail, the better.

Also, when one has program, or system crashes, there are often clues scattered around. This ARTICLE might help you find a few of those clues.

I working with Flex/Java RemoteObject.

I have the following object in Java

public class IdAndName {

and the equivalent in Flex

I call a method in Java that returns a List%26lt;IdAndName%26gt;. I get the list in flex the following way:

So the var list has the list of IdAndName.

My Question is...:

How can i obtain an ArrayCollection in Flex with the userIds (only them and not the userName??????????????????????????

How you make List%26lt;IdAndName%26gt;? you can fix your list in java or rewrite your ArrayCollection in flex like this:

Page Palette

I recently started having problems with the Page Palette, first the 'new page' %26amp; 'trash' icons dissappeared, now the pages display horizontally with page icons dissappearing off on the right (usually going to ten, before wrapping).

I have CS4,

I have the latest 6.03 update installed (which is when this began to happen).

I did the 'three-finger' reset of preferences (yes I got the dialog box to reset them), but it didn't really reset everything.

I manually deleted 'Essential Workspaces' file which did reset my preferences to default, but the pages palette is still behaving strangely.

Anyone had this problem? Anything I missed here?

Being that i had deleted the 'Essential Workspaces' file, I deleted the preferences file again and it appears to have worked the second time.

You may have to delete the one file, and then reset the prefs to make the problem go away if it persists. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I suspect a ''reset (whatever) workspace'' command from the menu would work, too. ID keeps both the base workspace XML and the current state XML codes in the Workspaces folder, as well as the ''current workspace'' and I don't believe a prefs reset touches those.

I've got a test account with BrowserLab and also updated my Extention Manager to 2.1.?I can install the first mxp file no problem but the second one won't install and comes up with the error below.?Can anyone give me any idea how to fix it??I'm using a macbook pro and am on Snow Leopard.

Thanks for your patience. Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you, but our engineering team is aware of and working on this issue in Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

The Known Issues section of the BrowserLab FAQ recommends against installing the BrowserLab extensions for Dreamweaver in Snow Leopard:

''The BrowserLab extensions for Dreamweaver have not been fully tested on prerelease builds of Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). We don't at this time recommend installing the BrowserLab extensions into Dreamweaver CS4 on OS X 10.6.''

I'll update this thread with more information when it comes available.

InDesign CS4 6.0.3 (Mac) hangs when...

Just upgraded to CS4, and Snow Leopard (but the problem was in ordinary Leopard too). When I right click an anchored photo within a table to ''open original''or whatever, INDD hangs.

Right clicking works OK for non-anchored images.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks for replying. All my images are .psd. I don't have a problem with images in Illustrator (graphs and logos) but they are not anchored. I'll check out a unanchored .psd link.

If that does not work, I may try a clean instal of Snow Leopard, though I'd prefer not to. Do not have the time today. I have problems with Acrobat 9 crashing when closing, so a clean instal may be the unfortunate solution.

It seems we have the same problem but with different things, as I can work with .psd as anchored pics, but not .eps

I also had a problem with 'Edit with' if I roll over this option in the contextual menus then InDesign freezes and I have to force quit.

Folder level Javascript disabled for a...

I created a folder level JS, it works fine on all computer here exept on one. On one computer, the javascript's in the pdf are working but the function called in the folder level script is not executed. (when it works on all the others). The script is in the right folder and the pdf works on other computers. Do I have to enable something in the preferences of acrobat reader 9.1. I checked the settings for JS in edit/preference and they are the same as for the others.

You should try to create a simple script with just an app.alert(''It works!'') function to make sure you're using the right folder.

If you see the alert when you open Reader, then the problem is with your script. If you don't the problem is with Acrobat's settings or the folder.

The problem is with Adobe Reader has the script works on all the other computers. There must be somewhere an option to allow folder level JS but I don't know where it is. The JS in the pdf itself are working so the problem is only with folder level JS and on this pc.

All the script does it to generate a mail with the mailto function. The Preferences-JavaScript are set as on my pc. So it must be something else. If I email the pdf to my pc, it works, so the pdf form is fine, the script is the same as on my pc.

Have you looked up the 'mailDoc()' and 'mailForm()' methods in the Acrobat JS API Reference?

Both methods have an ''F'' in the Qick Bar Box for Reader. This ''F'' indidcates a security restriction applies to these methods in Reader. Going to the pages for the description of the Quick Bar show that the ''F'' restriction indicates that ''Form Rights'' need to be applied to the form before Reader can use these functions.

Buttons - making a drop down menu

Hello,

I only know very basic flash. Right now, I am attempting to revamp a website. The buttons that are currently being used are only gifs that are hyperlinked and there are almost 12 buttons... I think that this is a ridiculous amount of buttons to have. It looks very cluttered.

So, I figured I should make 6 buttons and just fit the rest of the buttons into subcategorized buttons. And the way to do this is to create flash buttons with drop down menus. To see what I mean, go to this link and look at their buttons:

So far, I have gone into flash, created buttons and made graphics for the ''Up'' ''Over'' ''Down'' and ''Hit''. I have also added the menu buttons and graphics for the ''Over'' of each drop-down button-menu.

I have even provided the action script to link each button to where I need it to go.

HOWEVER, here is where the problem is. When I roll the mouse over the button, and then move the mouse down to click on one of the buttons in the drop down menu, the menu disappears, OF COURSE, because the mouse goes off the hit. I can't make the hit bigger, because the menu shouldn't open unless it's on the main button. But without the hit being bigger, the menu will always disappear.

IN ADDITION, I've never used flash buttons on a website before. I'm just using HTML. How do I link the button to the page? Do I save the file as a .swf flash file? And link to 6 different files? Or do I save the buttons in a line, and just use one link?

I'm on a bit of a deadline so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

While I can't help you with your deadline, I can offer a little bit of input.?To take a Flash approach you should find a Flash drop down menu tutorial thru Google and follow thru that to gain an understanding of how to construct one.?The problem you are having with the rollover stems from needing to extend the rollover such that each element of the dropdown also carries that rollover command.?Each button needs to be assigned code to process interacting with it and linking to some other web page.?The swf file that you publish would need to be sized for holding the buttons and then must be placed on the web page.

The example you pointed to uses a CSS drop down menu, which you will likely find easier to create and manage if you have no familiarity with how to make Flash work in a web site.?I suggest going to the Dreamweaver forum and looking there for information about that approach.

Rogue comma in array

Perhaps someone can spot what I'm doing wrong, please.?I'm using CS3.

I have a movieclip, mcMenu, on the timeline which contains a dynamic textbox, txtMenu. I'm using this code:

When I trace the array, it appears correctly in the output window.?In the textbox, there is a comma at the start of every line except line1.

The dynamic textbox is set to Multiline no wrap, although I find that results are the same with Multiline.?If I remove \n from the lines of text, it is wrapped in the textbox. I've tried removing the \n with the following code but it still wraps:

mcMenu.txtMenu.text = mcMenu.txtMenu.text+newline+arrMenu[i];

I don't really know if the comma indicates a blank line but there are no commas in the text at all.

Head starting to spin. (not used Flash for a couple of years)

For the code you show, except for missing the first element of the array in your textfield listing due to starting at i=1, there are no commas showing up for me.?Maybe you should show the code you are using that involves the trace command you mention.?Traces will include commas between array elements if you trace an an array as a whole.

I was using trace(arrMenu[i]); within the loop.?The output was correct, ie no comma but it did have a blank line between each line of text.?I'm baffled.

For that trace inside the loop that would be the case.?Each trace command starts on a new line, so with the \n at the end of each array element, you are tracing the text and the new line that \n creates.

I see what you mean.?When I use trace(arrMenu); with the loop, I do get a comma at the start of every line which is what is happening with my textbox.?So I need to remove that, but I had earlier?checked some old sample files and didn't see anything different to what I'm doing now.

You shouldn't be seeing the commas in the textfield unless you are not looping thru the array.?The code you showed in your first post is the proper way to display the contents of the array, assuming you want to display the array contents one line after another.?If you were to assign the complete array to the textfield, as in...

mcMenu.txtMenu.text = arrMenu;

then you will see the commas

Flex FTP and socket error #2031

Hi to all!

I'm trying to develop a FTP client in Flex/Air with socket (...whatelse !?!?)

I can connect to the FTP server and authenticate. Then I switch to passive mode sending the ''PASV'' ftp command.

In response i receive the data port on which I will (...well...actually....on which I would like to....) transfer the files. And here comew the trouble.

I create a new socket wich attempts to connect?on the port the server told me, it stands still for some moments and give me the socket error #2031.

I've first tried on the main hosting platform we use and doesn't work.

This morning I've also tried on another low-cost hosting platofrm and it works quite well (I can get to make the data connection in passive mode and retrieve the file list).

The weird thing is?that since our main hosting platform has changed the server the flex ftp doesn't work anymoe. Before, all worked well.

If is a problem of FTP server which colud be the cause?

Could be due to a wrong configuration?Some firewall?

Another strange thing is that other FTP client such Fetch or FileZilla connects well without any problem.Maybe flex socket lack of something?

Well, i've tried to figure out the differences but the 2 server give different response (one is more verbose than the other) so i cannot see which differences occur between the two server. The only thing that i found is that both server run on ProFTPd

I cannot understand why the socket gets to connect and authenticate, but when it's time to open the passive connection the sockets (on which the date should flow) fails with error#2031.

Does AIR have some limitation about the port range which socket can connect?

After some painful hours of research I've achieved what has changed on the server.

The main difference between the old server and the new one is that the previous had a dedicated ip address for each domain while the new one is a shared ip hosting solution.

Do you think this could affect the ftp library to crash or conduce to throw the famous #2031 socket error?

As said previously the weird thing is that other ftp client such filezilla or fetch work fine.

It all is done in flash, its known as an image train. How Ever you

decide to load the images Array or XMLList you would load the images

into an image wrapper and increment each x value times the width plus

padding. The slider at the bottom controls the movement of the image

wrapper.

PDF Preview Handler for Vista not...

Rencently I recived an e-mail with an attached PDF file and when I try to get the preview from Outlook 2007 in Windows 7 I can only see a message saying that there was an error with PDF Preview Handler for Vista and I have to double click the file to open with it's application. The thing is that I have already reinstaled both applications (Outlook 2007 and Acrobat 9) and I still getting the same results. I can preview PDF files from Internet Explorer 8 so there may be some bugs with this preview handler. If anyone knows a solution or registry classes fix It would be so helpful.

Download and install the free foxit reader as it works perfect in Vista Ultimate 64 bit and Windows 7 RC. I took adobe reader off both my computers due to the security problems with the software. Foxit reader is only like 4MB download too.

Far as I have read on a google and looking in the PDF fourms the answer is no to a fix.

Hello all

I have created a website that I have an issue with. When each page loads, the page (mainly header) seems to load slightly to the right and then shift over to center.?I have looked through it and can't figure out what is causing it. The 'shift' you are talking about is because your page requires a scroll bar on the side, and the browser only renders this on page display.

PS: The problem doesn't happen in all browsers, only those that by default don't display a vertical scroll bar. What the fix does is ensure that all browsers think your page content exceeds the height of the window and so open your page/pages with the scroll bar in place.

It will not disappear. The solutions give here, only force the browser to have a scroll bar, not remove the problem, the best solution would be to not use tables for layout, but that is another discussion.

You have the rule in the stylesheet correctly written and I don't see any noticeable jumps using Firefox.

Yes... looks ok to me too... i never saw the first link so didn't realise one could check...

However, i think part of the problem may be a visual illusion. Some links have a drastic change in background colours that seem to cause a jump. I set a screen ruler there to verify and actually there was no change in position or width. Hence, kind of figure it's an illusion. (Firefox %26amp; IE6 ).

Several small suggestions though:

1/ Check size of images... have not checked those but they may be unnecessarily large and slowing page load tme

2/ Change the intense blue background... that makes the page content, which has large chunks of white and takes time to appear, seem to jump.A lighter tone will probably reduce this effect.

Otherwise, as Nadia said, looks like you're good to go. At least on this issue!

I think the problem has been solved, except in IE 8.0.?I have looked through microsofts releases regarding IE 8 and they indicate it is css compliant. However, you can not apparently force the scrollbar.?Is there another way to do this?

Document compare in Acrobat 9 a...

It looks like Adobe in their infinite wisdom have dumbed-down the document compare in Acrobat 9.

In Acrobat 8 and before it used to be possible to do a quick-and-easy text comparison to highlight differences between documents. Now there are 3 (undefined) ways of comparing documents, none of which are suitable for comparing two mostly textual documents. The 250 page limit is madness too - many of our documents are 1000+ pages which Acrobat 8 used to handle perfectly well.

Is there any way of getting the old (Acrobat 8) document compare functionality back?

Dreamweaver MX 2004 & Apple Mac Snow...

Hi all,

Is there a way of getting Dreamweaver MX2004 to launch in Snow Leopard on the Mac? I have installed Rosetta, but Dreamweaver will not launch. By clicking on 'Get Info' on the Dreamweaver icon in the Finder, there is no 'Open in 32-bit mode' option.

Having called Apple Care, they advised it was an incompatibility issue. I cannot now open Dreamweaver, and hence cannot go the Updates menu to see if there are any applicable software updates. Having been on the Dreamweaver updates section of the Adobe site, I have downloaded the Dreamweaver 7.0.1 updater, just in case I had not previously installed this. However, upon running it reaches an error - stating I do not have sufficient access permissions (I do). (See attached screenshot).

If there is any help/advice anyone can give I would much appreciate it. I am not looking to upgrade Dreamweaver, since I am not a webdesigner and only use it a tiny amount to make minor adjustments to my website.

System: Mac Pro running Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard), Dreamweaver MX2004.

You need to realise that DWMX is several years old now and may not run on the new OS which is not even a week old. Adobe, have made the decision not to support very eary versions of their software on the new OS.聽 So you may be out of luck I'm afraid.

I understand it is an old programme, and that support is waning for it. From my personal point of view, I use it so infrequently and with such a lack of knowledge/skill that it is not worth my upgrading. I wonder on two accounts:

if anyone knows if Dreamweaver MX2004 with the 7.0.1 update does run in OS 10.6 (I can uninstall Snow Leopard, open Dreamweaver in OS 10.5 and ensure that I have 7.0.1 installed in which case)

if anyone knows of any 'work-arounds' that might be out there which might help. It worked in Leopard (10.5) and I wonder if there are any third party emulation programmes that might enable me to run the programme 'in Leopard' from within Snow Leopard?

I rely on on MX 2004 too, but not enough to fork out for the latest version. this old version does everything i've ever needed and and the tricks it cant do i can add in to the code by hand.

I tried the fix used for that on my DW MX 2004 but it didn't work - the problem appears to be with the first run of the app before the serial number bit comes up, so copying all the files from a ''registered'' install on a 10.5 leopard system should make it skip this registration step and move on to loading the main program. but after a few hours of trying its still not having it.

I hope a solution comes up soon, DW is the only app thats not working for me on 10.6, and i don't really want to downgrade back to leopard because of this one probably tiny problem.

Search these forums for ''Snow'' or ''Snow Leopard'' and you will find that SL is creating havoc for a lot of people.

I'm having the same problems , cant open mx 2004 in SL and dont use it enough to justify the upgrade cost. I'v been talking to a web friend who has recommended the following solution, at about a quater of the price of upgrading! Havnt looked into it yet, let me know if anyones used it!

I'm not sure why this month old post was bumped, but to the last poster, Adobe typically only allows you to upgrade your version if it is one of the previous 3 versions.聽 That would mean that CS4 is your last chance to upgrade.聽 Based on Adobe's history, you will only be able to upgrade to CS5 from Dreamweaver 8/CS2.聽 Anything before that would require that you purchase another full license at the full retail cost.

It seems, that all Versions of MX 2004 distributed as versions with internet/phone activation/registration have the problem, that they crash trying to connect the Macromedia Server.

The versions distributet with a volume license do not have this problem. So I hope the support of Adobe will find a solution soon.

(Even if dreamweaver does not run without problems under snow leopard... For me it is worth to run dreamweaver f.e. without the ftp part)

Yep this makes Freehand start perfectly, now is there a version of that file that will make DW start, i've tried renaming it to dreamweaver but it didn't work

also the file seems to contain no data so i guess the filename makes it work?

Heres what i did...

1 - install Dreamweaver and any other MX 2004 apps you want to use on another mac, i used a G4 800 with Leopard on.

2 - install using the following Key [volume licence key removed by moderator]

3 - make sure the app launches on the mac and doesnt ask for a key again.

4 - zip this folder up HD%26gt;Library%26gt;application support%26gt;Macromedia it was about 14mb on mine, i zipped the whole thing just for the hell of it.

5 - install dreamweaver on the 10.6 Snow Leopard Mac, it doesn't matter if you launch the app now it will still crash, it wont affect what happens next.

6 - replace the HD%26gt;Library%26gt;application support%26gt;Macromedia folder with the one from the other mac

7 - launch dreamweaver - stare in awe at the splash screen!

8 - make a website, smugly

after a day of use, its not crashed and runs exactly as it did on leopard.

HOWEVER what i have noticed is each time the app is launched a ''Crash report'' gets logged even though there is no crash, so you may want to tidy up the Home Folder%26gt;Library%26gt;logs%26gt;CrashReporter and DiagnosticReports folders every now and then.

Rapidweaver is a proprietary file format... file extension is rwsw, not html until you publish it., which is not a big deal but means no other html editor will open rwsw.

I have made my first movie with flash.?I put a stop in the last frame to keep it from looping.?I would like to have a button to start the movie.?I have made two buttons, one start and the other stop. I also have made the movie with a black screen to start by making a black rectangle and placing it at the beginning of the movie in the first two frames.

So what I would like it to do is when the movie opens you see a black screen with the two buttons. Click the start button and the movie starts and after the 2nd frame the black screen goes away and you see the movie play out. The stop button is incase you want to stop the movie at some point.?If you do then the start button would start it again.

I have found lots of info about how to make buttons but not very much on how to code them to do what I want.?using cs4.

I read something that said I should take off the stop at the end of the movie and put one at the beginning.?That way it will loop back to the beginning and stop so the start button could start it again?

Your last mention of moving the stop is probably a good idea.?As far as the commands go for the button code, it's very simple.?The start button would have: play(); in the button function, and the stop button would have stop(); in its function.?As far as actual code goes, that depends on which version of actionscript you're using... CS4 can use any of them AS1 thru AS3.?You should be able to find out how to code buttons in any of them fairly easy thru these forums or the Flash help files.

Usually, if things aren't working, and things just loop or otherwise don't obey code, there is a problem.

Are your Publish Settings for Flash set to use AS3??Are you getting any error messages??Did you assign the instance name (btn1_btn) to the button in the Properties Panel?

yes,I see an error that says

1120: access of undefined property btn1_btn (which is what I named the button)

then under source it says

well I got it work ok.

part of the problem was the button named btn1_btn was not named in the properties panel.?Its a bit confusing however because apparenlty there are different views of the properties panel. One of them being frame.?So I had it named in the frame properties panel but not the overall properties panel.

this is what I ended up with.?a start button and a stop button.

To get the correct view of the properties panel you have to select the object you intend to be working with.?You probably had the frame selected when the frame thing was showing.?When you select the button, the button's panel should be displayed.

But what i am after for the header is a flash video where there are tabs which when you scroll over them the tab enlarges. Hard to explain but please have a look at the websites below and you will see what i mean. Can anyone then please advise where i can purchase a template to do this.

How do I make a printing pre set in...

I use Photoshop CS4 and print on an Epson R360.?I often print high resolution images, usually jpeg, onto quality Epson paper with certain settings to get the best result.?However I am aware that I can set a ''pre set'' to achieve this without having to make the print spec choices each time but don't know how to do it.?I have checked the Adobe website but cannot find any relevant info that I can understand.?Can anyone give me a simple guide how to do this please?

In the PRINT dialog box, [see Pic-1], make all the changes that you want,

then [see Pic-2]

SAVES US, name your preset.?When you print again, then you just select that PRESET, and all your print specs for the PRESET should all be there.?I hope this helps.

Just a word of CAUTION:

Those printing presets have a nasty habit of not becoming sticky, even when the preset name shows as already selected in the dropdown menu of the printer driver dialog box.

The solution is to select the preset again every time right before printing, even when the name of the prest is already showing as selected, otherwise the results may be unpredictable.

Note that those presets are part of the OS printing dialog or the printer driver -- they have nothing to do with Photoshop. (which is why Adobe's help contains nothing about them)
