Hello,
Just upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6 and am having some very serious CS4 issues. I first noticed in flash when it constantly kept crashing on save. Now it seems that same issue is also on Illustrator durring open or save or export. I went over to photoshop and that's doing the same as well. The crash is similar on all programs in that it will thow a beach ball after you click save or open, then after a few seconds the entire program closes and two types of crash windows open. One that lets your submit a report and relaunch and the other seems liek the same thing with more options.?I am using a Macbook pro dual core 2.2ghz with 4 gigs of ram. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Illustrator and other CS4 Apps crashing...I wonder if you're going to have to reformat and reinstall everything.?After you did the upgrade, did you correct permissions??It almost seems like the CS4 apps are looking for the old OS and, since it cannot find it, goes belly up.?I'm just thinking out loud.?Not sure what the bleep could be going on there.?I might take a look at re-establishing your scratch disk(s) in each CS4 app's Preferences.
Illustrator and other CS4 Apps crashing...What is correct permissions? I tried wiping out CS4 from my machine and clean sweeping, and reinstalling CS4 and it still crashed. I ended up using time machine to take me back to OS 10.5.8 so I can get my work done. I am going to wait a few months for things to iron out before I take the leap again. It looks like there are a lot of people having the same problems and I need to get work done so I can't wait for a fix.

From your installer disk, choose Disk Utility ( insert Mac OS Installer %26gt; Disk 1 in your CD ROM ) , restart holdihg down the ''C'' key until you see the desktop.?You'll see the installer screen on your monitor.?Go to File %26gt; Open Disk Utility.?In Disk Utility, you should see your startup disk in a list.?Select it and do ''Verify Disk Permissions''.?Once the Verify is done, do a ''Correct Disk Permissions''.?This should be done periodically.
Sorry to hear you had to revert back.?You should contact Apple and explain what happened.?They might have a patch already.
...i know it's not much help, but i dived into the upgrade to snow leopard and am not experiencing any issues with CS4 or CS3...
I went back to 10.5 and wait for a real solution...
But that is sure that there is a real problem behind that : the description of the bug really exactly fit mine.
As I can see this is working for a lot of people, I am really unlucky that I have it on my 2 imacs.
I've tried dumping prefs and other solutions but I had no effect.
This is what I think the problem is that many of the users upgraded and there is a difference between Leopard and Snow Leopard which changes the way the OS works and interacts with the applications, but it is not unstable once you get a fresh start.
But how do you get a fresh start if you really do not understand or have any knowledge of those components?
Probably with a lot of pain and frustration.
I experienced all of the issues that everyone else experienced the difference is I did not panic and I thought about what are the kinds of things that would be me a real fresh start.
Short of an archival reinstall!
This is what I did. Instead of trying one thing at a time I simply trash all those files I knew could cause the problem.
Settings Folder ( it is important to trash the folder as it can itself be corrupt not just the preferences inside) then all the Cache files in the two Application Support Folders for the Adobe products giving me problems, any folder in the applications support folders under Adobe related to that application, Font Cache and the com.adobe.(Application name).plist files in the user preferences.
Now also I will give you a possible universal cause for crashing and that is what caused Photoshop to crash every time I used it.
The OS installed a font that it requires to run and I had substituted a postscript version of it prior to installing?the OS upgrade and it worked fine, the postscript version. But I now had a duplicate version loaded and I had a choice to disable it or deactivate the?postscript version which was the simplest thing to do and so I did it and Photoshop works and I notice that Illustrator behaved better as well.
My printer drivers were not working so I downloaded the upgrade and it was still not working so I remove the driver from the printer list and then added it back so the OS would know it had been added. The printers work fine. Well I had to clean the nozzle so that the printer would do a good job.
So it would be wise perhaps to try and get everything that can contribute to these issue off the system until the oS and the application can re create them in a fresh way.
could you be more specific on where the ''settings'' folder is and what font was installed and how you removed or installed it?
thanks.
I'm having the same issues.?Photoshop and Illustrator both crash on me for no apparent reason.?Sometimes when I do a Save As and other times when I'm trying to export as a different file.?I tend to cross my fingers each time I save and hope it will work.?I'd love for there to be a quick fix that will make this all better.
Sounds like a font issue to me.
solution:
- create a new user
- log in as new user and run illustrator
- log out and login as origin user
- go to the new user Library folder /Users/%26lt;new yser%26gt;/Library and add permissions for the Library folder (Get Info - permissions and sharing - unlock - + - %26lt;your user name%26gt; - apply to enclosed items
- copy the new user Adobe folder (/Users/%26lt;new user%26gt;/Library/Application Support/Adobe) to you Library folder (same location
- do the same with preference files from ~/Library/Preferences (adobe plists starts with: com.adobe...., copy all Adobe preference directories also)
- run Illustrator - voilla, IT WORKS!!!
You should erase %26lt;new user%26gt; account now or keep it if any other CS4 app starts crashing.
I tried the above steps and it definitely did not work for me. It make sense on how it might solve things, but the first file I opened it crashed 2 seconds after it opened, and the next 2 files crashed when I placed an image.
Try this from :
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2168885%26amp;start=45%26amp;tstart=0
FIXED IT!
And it's easier than I guessed. I'm ecstatic. After heaps of tests and trials I worked out what the system was trying to do and solve it. Anyone that's getting crashes whenever the system tries to save or open docs should try this:
-1. Start by opening System Preferences
-2. Select 'Sharing' from the Internet %26amp; Wireless section
-3. From the list on the left choose 'File Sharing' and turn it off.
-4. Delete anything listed in the Shared Folders section
-5. Turn File Sharing back on
-6. Log out, then Log back in
-7. Done!!
I'm saving and loading like a crazy person now. No thanks to Apple or Adobe for this fix.
