Using a Font Within an Ai file?

I received an Ai file as a part of a graphic treatment for a video project. When I open the file it tells me ''Font not found on the system. Missing font has been substituted.'' It is referring to font - ZapFDingbats. I looked up what that font is and from what I can tell, it is not even represented within the project, it's one of those weird sybolic dingbats fonts. This is confusing me as there is little to no text within the project anyways. It is basically 3 different colors of the same logo for the client.

At the top of the project the alphabet is typed out in lower case and upper case letters in a font that I would assume to use and keep consistent for the remaneder of the project in Final Cut Pro. Is it possible in Illustrator to withdraw this font from the Ai file and use it in another application? I'm assuming that is why they have it typed out up top right? I've never seen this done before...

How do I even tell what font it is? When I select the layer and try and adjust with the Text tool it selects a bunch of other things within the layer, not just the font.

PS - I'm kind of new at Ai if you can't tell haha.

Thank you. I think I understand. So a text object of some sort could be hiding in there while that particular font was selected and active even if I can't see it?

I am awaiting their reply as to what the font is, but unfortunatley I have no direct lines of contact to the creatives who made it, just the producers who probably have no clue...

The risk here is that whatever was created using Zapf Dingbats was substituted when you opened the file and it may be difficult to nail down which element it was ( or maybe not, depending on the complexity of the artwork ).?I'd try to get my hands on the actual fiont.?You can go online to something like myfonts.com and purchase Zapf Dingbats ( should be around $29.95 ).

One technique to find where a font is used is to zoom in very tightly (6400%) and then click on the font in the Find Font menu.

OK, so after reading these suggestions and some further digging I've come across a couple of new issues. It appears as if my computer already has Zapf Wingbats font installed. It is in my Font Book application and I'm able to see it correctly and it is validated. Why am I not able to access this particular font in Ai? After messing around I've noticed that many of my installed fonts are only working with particular applications, and not with others.

Is this some sort of system wide font preference setting? Or is it a compatibility issue between my applications and the actual fonts themselves?

I do not use Font Book so I do not know the settings but if you used a font manager like Font Agent Pro and loaded your fonts that way there would not be such a problem.

However if you want them to show in the adobe products you can place them in the Hard drive/Library/Fonts folder and I believe they will show up if you are on a Mac. As it appears you are on a Mac.
